The Global Living and Learning Community is located on the 5th floor of Everglades Hall at FIU. This program was created to:

  • Exhibit awareness of one's own cultural values, beliefs, attitudes, biases and stereotypes and the impact of these on others.

  • Acknowledge and respect the existence of different cultural values, beliefs and attitudes

  • Seek knowledge about world history, current events, global economics and sustainability

  • Recognize that people’s well-being is interconnected and globally interdependent

  • Accept responsibility for active world citizenship

  • Practice collective leadership methods that focus on inclusion, collaboration and crossing boundaries

We hosted bi-weekly dinners featuring guest speakers and social events on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. We engaged in local service in the community (ex. feeding the homeless) and participated in the annual Student Leadership Summit. We grouped up and came together to create a project that promotes global citizenship. My group focused on human trafficking and even brought in a speaker from ERASE Child Trafficking to speak and educate the community. Each group also had a project, presentation, and meal to cook based on a certain geographic region in the world. My group prepared a traditional Egyptian dinner which everyone loved! Living in this community was an incredible opportunity for me. I developed life long friendships with people who share my same perspectives on the world.
